When Life Is Just Incredibly Good

Sadly, I am one of those people that spends the majority of their time sighing and complaining. I often need a reminder that life isn't all that bad, difficult or boring.

Last night was much that for me. My best friend turned 16 and to celebrate she threw the most amazing party. I haven't had as much fun as I had last night in a long time. It was absolutely brilliant. And I don't even know what did it! The music, the people, the drinks, the jokes? It was just so incredibly fun!

The photos I took are, well, rather embarrassing... :p But here are some that just fit the criteria of being on this blog. ;)

Low and behold: My best friends!

The Complete Persepolis

I finished reading The Complete Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, and oh, my... What a beauty she was!

Never have I loved reading an assigned book as much as I loved reading this gem of a graphic novel. Also, I never really read graphic literature before. But of course, that depends on the way you interpret the word 'literature'.

The drawings were lovely, the content was clever, funny and interesting, and the storyline was just breathtaking! Also, I loved how it tackled topics on sexism and feminism. As you may know, I am very much interested in that. But what I felt most of all while reading this book, was this sense of wonder. I wondered why this was such an important part of history, and yet I'd never learned about it in school. It just baffled me... It still baffles me!

I'm guessing you've gotten a little bit more curious as to what it's about now, haven't you?

Sadly, at the moment I have very little time to write a detailed review, but it may just come in the future! (Not making any promises, though) In the mean time, check it out on Goodreads? Or, you know, you could just pick it up from your local bookstore, because it's ab-so-lutely worth your money.

I promise.

(& even the cover on its own is brilliant to have. I mean- Look at it!)

Oh, the joys of being a bibliophile. :)

What are you reading at the moment? What could you recommend? Leave a comment!

Now that reading for school is on a hold for at least a little while, I think I'm going to dive back into Looking For Alaska!

Have a good day,

Eva

Picking Apples

Hi all!

What a lovely Sunday afternoon it was!

I spent it picking apples in some of my relatives' orchard. :) Something I'd never done before, and quite honestly is a little addictive! After a while, we were told to stop picking because the apples would no longer fit in the car! The weather was great, the people were nice, and we ate a delicious Spanish tomato soup together. All in all, a Sunday very well-spent.

How did you spend your Sunday? :)

Love, Eva

School Book Haul

Hi everybody!

Tomorrow I will start not only my fifth year of high school, but I will also be going into my fifth year of bilingual education. The level of English keeps rising, obviously, and now that I have both my FCE- as well as CAE certificates, I'm going to start the IB Programme. This is a school programme originally designed for native speakers, but they provide it at our school anyways.

A lot of literature is involved, and I'm actually very excited about this! As a writer, I'm very keen on learning more and more about how a book is constructed. Foreshadowing, figurative language, double meanings and literary aspects are all things that intrigue me, because I'd love to be capable of using that myself as well. So I'm actually really excited about these books that landed in my mailbox today. :)

Over the course of the IB Programme, which lasts two years, we will be reading and analysing these four books at school:

Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller
The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison
Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut
The Complete Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi

What will you be reading for school this year?

Love you lots,

Eva
